Sultanahmet mosque or Blue Mosque ?

Well..in istanbul We have 3000 mosques .2000 of them( historical )  before republic foundation ,the rest ( modern )  after republic . Among all these mosques ,Sultanahmet mosque is the most famouse one ? So What is or where is Blue mosque ?  I feel that your are asking this questions now. Answer is both are same..Sultanahmet mosque and Blue mosque is same mosque.

How and What is the stories behind these names ?

This mosque has been consructed by Sultan Ahmet 1. İn 1609-1617. And mosque has been started to be called with its consructer’s name as Sultanahmet mosque.But when We reach republic time especially 1970-80-90’s  because of tourism in istanbul and Türkiye started and growth well and many tourists visit istanbul , the mosque was started to be called as Blue mosque by travellers.

What was the reason that They call it as Blue mosqu ?

When travellers Visit Blue Mosque and entered inside They were affected by the beauty of designs,tiles and colours of the dome.There are 260 colourfull Windows especially Blue colours and also the tiles on the wall blue and white colours and on the domes many types of designs as flowers with different colours but mostly blue colours.So end of their visits blue colour will be most remembered colour about this mosque. When They try to remember its name They can not remember SultanAhmet mosque So easily they remember it with its beautifull Blue colours on the walls,windows and domes..Time by time this name “Blue Mosque “ is accepted and used more and more among the travellers

In the other hand ,Turkish people dont call this mosque even They dont know the name of this mosque as Blue Mosque.They call it as only SultanAhmet Mosque

How to visit Blue Mosque ?

Blue Mosque is still in used by public people for prayings

We have 5 times prayings in our religious.So that during the prayings,it is closed for visitors only prayers can enter .it is closed for Visit 30 minutes before praying times.These hours change Acording to winter and summer times.When pray finished, you must be waitin at the tourists  entrance to Mosque ..Sometimes que can be very long for entrance..Especially if There are groups came to İstanbul by international Cruises , it is getting so long que..

On Friday ,because of We have Friday Lunch pray Which is most important for Muslims ,only that that the mosque is close since morning till end of lunch time pray.

Visiting hour generally as below:

Openning             08:30.           Closed.          12:15

Openning.             13:45.          Closed.          15:30

Openning.            16:30.            Closed.          17:45

Friday Openning  14:15

Any rule to enter to the mosque ?

İn our religious ladies has to cover their hair with scarfe and also cover their shoulders and long dress or skirt.

İf you dont have scarfe or long dress ,at the entrance to mosque They give to ladies What They need and when you finished your visit,at the exit you can leave them to officers.

Males also should wear their shirts  at least knee level
